Office of the Executive Engineer, Public Health Engineering Department, Majuli Division is located near Block Tiniali, Kamalabari, Majuli. The office has been recently awarded Divisional status on 4th September, 2021 as per Govt. of Assam Cabinet decision. Two central government flagship missions namely Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and Swacch Bharat Mission – Grameen (SBM-G) are implemented by the Department through District Water & Sanitation Mission (DWSM) chaired by the Deputy Commissioner, Majuli. Along with these missions, several other departmental activities viz. water sources installation & disinfection, sanitation facilities installation, flood relief measures related to water & sanitation, sanitization drives in covid hotspots are carried out by the department from time to time.

            Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) is a central government initiative under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, being implemented in partnership of central and respective state governments, aims to ensure access of piped drinking water for every household in India. The nation-wide Mission was launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Sri Narendra Modi on 15th August, 2019. The mission’s goal is to provide to all households in rural India safe and adequate water through individual household tap connections (FHTCs) from Piped Water Supply Schemes (PWSSs) by March, 2024. In Majuli District, 206 number of PWSS already being implemented in the District under the Mission and 37,567 number of FHTCs have already been provided to rural households from the schemes. The PWSSs are of various types depending upon the locations and site conditions viz. Multi village schemes (MVS) for water quality affected areas, Single village schemes (SVS) for single villages for ground water of acceptable quality, Solar powered mini PWSS for isolated scattered areas. 76 number of more new PWSSs are already planned to cover the balance households in the District with FHTCs. Majuli District aims to achieve 100% FHTC saturation within the year of 2022. Moreover, 171 number of Community Water Purification Plants (CWPPs) have also been installed at various arsenic affected habitations of the district. Another programme named Hon’ble Prime Minister’s JJM 100 days campaign has also been implemented in the District by PHE Department. This campaign aims to cover all schools and AWCs with potable drinking water supply arrangement. Under the programme, 533 schools and 562 AWCs have already been provided with drinking water arrangement in the district till 10th July, 2022. It has been planned to cover all the remaining schools and AWCs within the month of August, 2022. Water quality testing are also done in the PHED Majuli Sub Divisional Level Laboratory (SDLL) and using Field Testing Kit (FTK) at field level.

            Swachh Bharat Mission - Grameen (SBM-G) was announced by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi on Indian Independence Day & launched on 2 Oct 2014, Gandhi Jayanti. The mission has been implemented in two phases. SBM-G Phase-I aimed to achieve ODF status by constructing Individual Household Latrines (IHHLs) at household level. Majuli District achieved ODF status in the year of 2019 by constructing 26,937 number of IHHLs in rural households. SBM-G Phase-II is currently under implementation in the District in convergence with P&RD Dept. which aims to achieve ODF Plus status by completing measures for Solid & Liquid waste management (SLWM) both at household and community level and constructing Community managed sanitary complexes (CMSCs). Under Phase-II, 179 number of MCFs and 149 number of CMSCs are currently ongoing in the District.
