PWD Building
INTRODUCTION
The Assam Public Works Department was established in the year 1880. The department has undergone considerable expansion since after attainment of independence and for smooth functioning of the organization, to share the increasing work load and for providing more stress to development works, the Assam P.W.D. has been divided into two wings viz. Roads and Building wings in August 1977 and since then both the wings are functioning with their prescribed identity. The principal function of the Public Works Department is to develop the infra-structure for transport & communications of the State. Assam P.W.D. discharges its function in construction and repair of roads, bridges, culverts in the state including construction and repair of public buildings of the state and till date it has reached a considerable height of fame and competence.
Public Works Department(Building Wing) deals with the construction ,maintainance and repair of Government Buildings and structures in the state of Assam and also outside Assam for construction of Assam Bhawan etc.
Key Functions:-
(i) Construction, repair and maintenance of various Government and residential building of the State.
(ii) Adoption and implementation of the latest standards, State of the Art practices, use of innovative and appropriate technology and building materials to enhance quality, productivity and affordability.
Majuli Building Sub-Division renamed as Majuli Territorial Building Sub- Division was established in the year 1982 under Jorhat Building Division. Recently, Majuli District Territorial Building Division has been created on 03.12.2021 as per Govt. Notification B.56/2021/197 dtd. 03.11.2021
Some of the on going projects executed under Majuli District Territorial Building Division are as follows:
1. Construction of Integrated DC Office ,Officer’s Quarter,Grade-III & Grade-IV Quarter at Garamur at Majuli
2.Construction of Science Centre and Planaterium at Majuli
3.Construction of Zilla Parishad Office at Majuli
4. Construction of D.TO office at Majuli
5.Construction of Polytechnic Institute at Majuli
6. Construction of Govt. Model College at Majuli
7.Construction of Stadium at Kamalabari and Jengraimukh , Majuli
8.Construction of Majuli University of Culture ,Majuli
9. Construction of Flood Shelter at Karatipar, Majuli
10.Construction of Museum at Dakhinpat Satra,Majuli
11.Construction Mutipurpose Community Hall at different places of Majuli
