Sericulture is an agro based industry through which the rural economy can be uplifted. At present the Golden yarn produced from Muga Silk worm is imparting a vital role all around the world. Eri, Mulberry and Tassar are also important yarn through which export quality product can be produced. Positive thinking towards Sericulture may enhance the productivity and also will be a primary source of earning.

Different ongoing/ Proposed scheme of Sericulture under Majuli District:-

 

1.Economics upliftment of Seri farmers through APART (Eri Sector)  

The scheme is implemented by the Directorate of Sericulture Assam,Guwahati-22 with financial support from the World Bank. The scheme is inaugurated on 2019-20. There are 123 (One hundred twenty three) numbers beneficiaries who are engaged in Eri Sector selected from Majuli district for the scheme. The main object the scheme are to raise kesseru plantation, increase the production of Eri cocoon and Yarn. The training is imparted   to the selected Eri farmers for their skill upgradation on modern Eri silkworm rearing and Kesseru hostplant cultivation technology.

 

2.Silk Samagra Scheme (Eri sector)

The scheme is implemented by the Directorate of Sericulture Assam,Guwaati-22 with financial support from the Central Silk  Board Govt.of India, is inaugurated from 2020-21.There are 255(two hundred fifty five) numbers beneficiaries who are engaged in Eri sector-a) 5 nos for raising Kesseru nursery,b) 200 for Kesseru hostplant cultivation and c) 50 nos for weavings sector.

            The main object of the scheme is to prepare the Kesseru nursery which is essential for plantation. The main object of the Kesseru hostplant plantation is essential for Eri silkworm rearing by producing high quality leaf to produce quality cocoon and yarn for selecting. 50 nos of the weavers’ beneficiaries who are engaged in Eri sector to increase the production of Eri fabric, cloth as per National and International market demand and creation of brand for National and International market. The beneficiaries will be provided skill upgradation training, introducing new designed value added cloth etc.

Future Plane:-Sericultural activity will be improved through FIG(Farmers Interested Group) under the scheme APART  Already 35 nos FIG have been formed  under the jurisdiction of the Superintendent of Sericulture Majuli.
